There were about 13 questions I either had no clue about or wasn't quite sure. 8/10 questions were right off the transcender. 1/10 I either just knew or could figure out easily. The other 1/10 were oddballs, Novell trivia, etc. Some of the oddballs I can remember: How many users? can you have total in an apple something or other pool? (500,600,800, or 1000?) A hub that you can use to connect different kinds of connectors- (hybrid hub, repeating multiport hub)? What's the netware default global share folder's name? (something:share?) Remote users vs mobile users in novell (there's no difference, remote users can use dial up to access the tree?) Where do you change the mx record for your domain (with the isp that hosts the name record- I knew this one but I know it's not on the transcender or anywhere else really) What port do you telnet into to test smtp (I got this wrong and realized it later. First instinct is telnet=port 23, but you actually telnet into the smtp port=25) What do you enable in MacOSx to let windows see shares? (My gut on this one was SAMBA, but that wasn't an option, i think i picked the only answer w/ an A in it, AFS or something) Josh N... Thanks for all of your help in successfully becoming a MCSA! Scott M Sent: Wednesday, June 27, 2007 Guys, In my celebration I almost forgot to let both of you know I tested Monday and passed both 70-271 and 70-272. I was so excited by passing 70-271 with a 833 score that I had a hard time concentrating on 70-272 and dropped to a 781. We've been slammed here at Spotsylvania and my boss asked me to postpone two other times because of staffing but this time she said no way and to do it. I couldn't have done it with out you guys. George for your spending the extra time on things I did not know and for telling me the little thought of it always being DNS has proved right and useful! Will your insight into the testing was dead on, I copied a few notes and then wrote them down on a dry erase sheet and several times I thought about questions getting rid of the 2 wrong ones and then looking at the 50/50 on the remainder. On to Network +! Any chance of a Monday through Friday in the day time class coming up within the next year? You guys are simply AWESOME! Will, I bet right now I can dance better than you! LOL James You will have my Help Desk gal named Nancy Caldwell next week for Numera TrackIT training and I told her you guys were the best and to say hi for me! Also wanted to add that your certificates you gave me look 10 times better than the ones Microsoft sent me! LOL, be sure to tell George thanks and hello! Sent: Friday, August 03, 2007 4:09 AM Hey Will, How you been? ... How are things with you? Im still out here in Japan trying to get that money. I just finished my CCSP certification with Cisco and I am trying to get the Certified Ethical Hacker Certification next. I think that will really get me established in the Network Security field. My goal is to try to get a job in the Tokyo Financial district maybe in one of the investment banks to protect and secure their networks. As the Japanese say, "Gambatte" or I will do my best. I like Japan a lot, but on occasion I do miss being in the States sometimes. Time will tell. Well if I come back you're not gonna throw chalk at me again are you? Hahaha. Anyways thank you for remembering my birthday and thanks for all the help and guidance you have given me throughout my career. I will be in touch. Take care of yourself. Have a good one. I was just planning on checking into and finishing up the old MCSE stuff -- would you believe I've simply been working away over the years never having finished my certs?!? The training I had with you has proven invaluable and gave me the broad range of hands on experience I desperately needed back then for a good start in IT. ... I think the time's come to finally button up those cert exams. Been working with 2003 for the past year and a half or so along with Exchange 2003 here and in our branch offices, as well as doing a little side work along those lines, setting up small offices, firewalls, backup solutions, etc. Your training gave me the confidence to dig in on a lot of that server stuff, whereas before I was a little apprehensive to do so in case I brought it down and didn't know how to get it set back up; it was the hands on experience, installs, etc. that built that confidence. ... You know, I wouldn't mind checking into any current programs you guys are doing right now. I'd like to get some security cert ... Scott Sent: Tuesday, April 13, 2004 8:22 AM Attached is my MCSE transcript. Thank you for working with me throughout this process. Because of your aid, I'm in the perfect job for my disability. Not only that, but I received a 15K pay increase to boot. HyperLearning was very effective in my training. George Geyer is a great teacher. You know you've had a good instructor when you can still remember things a year later. He repeated pertinent facts over and over again that really helped me to understand. I highly recommend his courses. After I completed my last exam, I stopped by his new learning center to pick up my MSCE polo shirt (very nice) I'm still waiting for a call from that person you said that would be calling for a follow up. Best of luck to you and those who fall under your guidance. V/R, Bob S, MCSA, MCSE Windows NT/2000 Network Engineer Sent: Monday, April 02, 2007 As I remember, there was more on NT 4.0 Server than I expected. It had to do with at what point in the modernizing process you absolutely MUST upgrade from NT4 to SBS 2003 or Windows Server 2003 and demote or retire your NT 4 Server. Other than that, I feel the Transcender was the most valuable thing in terms of passing the exam, but the course content was also valuable in terms of getting the background and a fuller comprehensive type of understanding of the Windows Server family. Thanks again for all you did. I may ask to help me in Raleigh (paid of course) sometime if I land a really big contract. -Will J Hi George, Good to hear from you. I took and passed my 292 test so I am officially a 2003 MCSA. I am now self studying for my 293 exam which I plan on taking after thanksgiving. Then I will only have 298 or some other elective to get my MCSE. I will keep you in mind if I or my guys need any further training. The class you put on was very good. Regards,Martin B I was working for the State at a local facility for Mentally Retarded adults when I realized it was time for a change in my life. I was 27 years old making a salary that a newly graduated high school student would make. Sure, the work was rewarding, but it just wasn’t putting food on the table, and honestly, I was burnt out. I wanted to do something that was challenging, both personally and professionally, and something that was going to improve my family’s financial quality of life. That’s when I discovered HyperLearning Technologies. I was always very interested in computers but never really had any real hands on training with them. Honestly, I had no idea how a network operated nor had I ever seen a network operating system like Windows NT. I decided to enroll in classes provided by Hyperlearning Technologies through a local community college. The price was right and the schedule was perfect for me. Within weeks I was diving head first into Windows 2000 and heading towards my MCP for Windows 2000 Server. Hyperlearning Technologies, in my opinion, has a foolproof plan for getting people the knowledge they need. They use dedication as a driving force. I was truly learning the OS, hands on, from the basics of how networks operate to the intricate details of a Windows 2000 forest. Not only were the class materials A-1, the hands on labs were outstanding. We were running a real network! The most impressive parts however were the instructors. They were not just instructors. They were friends. They were people who cared, honestly, about their student’s success. I was well on my way to achieving the coveted MCSE certification for Windows 2000. After 6 month’s of hard work, I had achieved my MCSE for Windows 2000, and wouldn’t you know it, I landed a great job working in the IT field on a Military Contract for the Navy and Marine Corps. Hyperlearning had prepared me to support a live Windows 2000 network for hero’s defending our freedom. For those who are involved in the military, you know exactly how important communication is and an intranet is the way they do most of it. My salary was increased by more than 100% from my old career and I love my job. Within one year, I have been promoted to Shift Manager and I owe much of my success to the training and mentoring I received from Hyperlearning Technologies. This is not just a made up testimonial to entice potential professionals to choose Hyperlearning. Please feel free to contact me at any time to talk about my experiences! I am always happy to help others as Hyperlearning has helped me. If I had to do it again, they would be my choice, no questions asked. Dave M In my experience, HyperLearning has the most productive and efficient MCSE program in the Hampton Roads area. While many training facilities have "converted" the certification program to an academic curriculum, HyperLearning's approach is designed to prepare and help students focus on achieving the certification itself. The training materials used were the best in the industry and are top quality. The instructors are very knowledgeable, experienced and professional. I am currently an MCSE instructor at another training facility and with the way HyperLearning has structured the MCSE program, I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone who is serious about pursuing the MCSE Certification. MaryJane F,
MCSE Sent: Monday, January 16, 2006 9:23 AM Dear George, ... It was a real pleasure working with you again on our training program. I feel we got a great education and I think the navy personnel were impressed with the quality of the training and the very functional classroom. The virtual software contributed so much to the course and made the labs so much more effective. I appreciated your flexibility in working with our demanding schedule on the production side of our LAN. We have all personally benefited from the training and the command has an improved network. Thanks so much for your excellent training and for your friendship, John I George and Roger I would like to take this time to let you know that you are the best. I learned so much during my time with you and would like to thank you for taking the time to teach me and ensure I knew the material. The teaching methods you two use are unmatched by anyone I have ever dealt with. When a problem is raised you did not just give the answer but guided us through it to help us work out the problem. This method taught me a lot of troubleshooting skills I did not have before. The time you two take with the students as well as the personal caring you show is great. Anyone that wants to learn the Microsoft products and obtain their MCSE should look no further than your school for it is the best. The way you bring in personal experiences is and was great. You two make the information interesting and easy to learn and pick up. Other than this, I can not thank you enough for everything you done for me and the things you taught me. THANK YOU so much. Re: MCSE Certification I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tidewater Community College and HyperLearning Technologies for providing a very informative as well as enjoyable learning experience. I especially want to thank my Instructor Mr. George Geyer for his outstanding teaching skills and knowledge of Microsoft’s Certification program. George’s dedication and infectious will to succeed provided me with the learning platform necessary for my certification success. George made a point of making sure I understood the curriculum before he moved on to new information and did not hesitate to come in early or stay late to answer all questions as well as extend his facility for additional lab time. The facilities at HyperLearning are State of The Art, with clean classrooms and equipment which also enhanced my experience. In closing I would hope that many more students have an opportunity to have their minds programmed with the knowledge that George Geyer, Tidewater Community College and HyperLearning have to offer. The networking world can use many more trained and qualified MCSE’s. Sincerely, Hi, When I went to school I
was terrified. The real world was so different than staying with my
children, and there were those ever-looming doubts of, "What if I fail?"
.. George Geyer never allowed those fears to materialize. George is a
wonderful teacher, that stands behind each and everyone of his
students,… a no nonsense attitude, but a warm and outrageous sense of
humor! A humor that cuts through the edge of technology and gets the
brain thinking. You can go numb just wondering how in the world you are
going to memorize allll this stuff! I am writing to you from my $1000.00 laptop, when a
year ago I was wondering how I was going to stretch the food stamps, to
last to the following week. … I received my MCP in July, and slowly
worked on my A+, which I received in February. I then received my
Network+ certification in March. I am taking my W2KPRO this weekend, and
then in two weeks I am taking my Managing a Windows 2000 Network
Environment. I will then be a fully certified MCSA. The compliment is well deserved. It was a compliment towards you as the motivator and towards the gang as committed individuals. I hope that your classes continue to turn out such enthusiastic and determined individuals. I was tickled to see when you got your CCNA. It wasn't that much of a leap from the Networking that we went through for MCSE, but the terminology was a bit different. I have come to find that so many of the general principles that you put before us have been true in whatever endeavors I have undertaken. I have been named to the President's Club of my company this year. I owe you a thanks for that. They only offer four positions for technology folks. I got a great head start in this industry due to the knowledge I gained from you and with you. Thank you for your inspiration. I hope all is well for you. Hey folks!! I thought I would drop you a note of encouragement, I took my 1st exam this morning and found it fairly easy to take, follow Will's instructions on "HOW TO". Most of this stuff you guys know. I did much better than I expected, I scored a 815 out of a possible 900. Not bad! You only need a 640 to pass. Any question? Don't wait!!! Do it while it's fresh in you head and get a good night sleep. Don't study anymore! You already know it! Good luck! Kenny G. Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2007 12:59 PM Subject: FW: A+ certified Yes!! Sent: Friday, April 20, 2007 3:46 PM It has been a long time, and thank you for the birthday wishes. All is going rather well, I (finally) found a position that I can stick with. I’m working for Ferguson Enterprises (or Wolseley North America) for the past year and it keeps getting better. I’m working at the top level of Windows administration (tech) but there is plenty of room for advancement here, including management. I’m also enjoying the large corporate environment (yes, I even enjoy wearing business professional everyday!) Your training is still worth its weight in Gold, you truly sent me off "certified" not with just a piece of paper, and it shows. Now that I am involved with the interview process, I cannot believe how some people are getting certified, we had one interviewee tell us, the way to manually change a DNS host record was to "log onto the DNS server, open the TCP/IP properties of the server, and change the IP address there (the NIC’s IP) . . . MCSE 2003? I love your philosophy! I really think you are doing great for the IT community, sending qualified and truly certified individuals into the workforce, not people with "certificates of completion" Talk to you soon. Been real busy recently between all the work orders here in the office and studying and reviewing for the exams. I've scheduled both exams on the same day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Will, I plan to do just as you advised. I'll take notes into the restroom and dispose of them before I walk out asking for paper or dry erase as I go in for writing down those notes. I feel good and I feel ready. George, I can't begin to say how much I appreciated your time and your wisdom. I've bragged to others about going down and the boss is crazy seeing how excited I came back. Would a nice plug on County letterhead help at all? Word has it that my Director is planning on talking to a couple other localities (City of Fredericksburg, Stafford County and King George County) to see if we all want to chip in and bring you guys up for training here. My Manager thinks she can't have all of us away as heaven forbid the County can't live without all of us for a week or more at a time. Any ways, it's looking good all around. Director was very happy to see someone actually go to training and told all my peers we can go anywhere in the US but prefer in state so I spoke up and reminded everyone you guys are minutes from the beach.
