Course Description:
This course covers the basics of personal computers, both software and hardware, networks, the Internet, computer security, green IT, and basic maintenance. The course requires little or no previous experience with personal computers. Students will get most out of this course if their goal is to learn the basics of personal computers and networking. This course helps students prepare for the exam--CompTIA Strata: IT Technology.
Course Objective:
Demonstrate that a successful candidate has the knowledge to identify technology and computer hardware basics, compatibility issues and common errors, software installation and functions, security risks and prevention, as well as some Green IT and preventative maintenance practices by passing:CompTIA Strata: IT Technology Exam.
Target Student:
The Strata IT Technology certificate is ideal for individuals and students new to the IT job market as well as the increasing number of professionals changing careers to IT or technology-related fields. Many entering an IT career will continue to pursue higher certifications in CompTIA A+, and with specialized experience, CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security +.
Prerequisites:
CompTIA Strata IT Fundamentals of IT Technology is an entry level course and requires little prior knowledge of computers or computer technology.

Instructor led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities.

- Display system performance information; perform disk maintenance tasks; and use Windows backup.
- Install and configure programs; troubleshoot; and use System Restore
- Work with users accounts and passwords;the Windows Firewall;automatic updates
- Add a printer, set a default printer and manage print jobs
- Proper use of monitors and resolve display issues
- Identify ports and connectors
- Explain Networking, join a network, sharing folders and printers.
- Basic Components of Internet Explorer, Web and IP addresses, the role of a DNS server
- Internet Explorer Favorites, Tabs, basic and advanced searches
- Customize Internet Explorer, add-on programs, and playing multimedia content
- Set privacy and security options in Internet Explorer
- CPU's and buses, memory and memory chips
- Optical data storage, USB flash drives, hard drives and drive interfaces
- The basic components of a network and describe WAN technologies
- Create Client network connections through wired, wireless and dial-up methods
- Discuss Network security and threat trends
- Identify safety issues and hazards in the computing environment, follow ESD safe practices, saving energy and reducing waste
- Discuss maintaining a secure environment and perform preventative maintenance tasks
