Association of Communications and Electronic Schools (ACES) PFOIC Exam Preparation The Certified Professional Fiber Optic Installer student will gain the knowledge and skills to correctly install, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cabling links in the ISP (Inside Plant Setting).   This course is offered at all times.  It will be scheduled upon demand. Students are provided with take-away installer tool kits, trained on the use of standard High Speed Networking certification testers, practical and written certification tests are given on the last day of class.  Students leave this class equipped and ready to go to work. This course, instructor led, will teach the student the needed knowledge base that includes current industry standards and train the student in the required hands on skills for proper termination of fiber optic connectors, mechanical splices and fusion splices. The student will have demonstrated the use of the OTDR and other fiber optic test equipment. The student will gain the following knowledge and skills: Theory of light propagation over fiber optics, LED and Laser drivers and optical receivers Theory of light attenuation over fiber optics, due to MMF and SMF Modal dispersion, short-bends, connectorization, and fiber impurities. Low-power and high-power optical budget calculations. install, test, validate, certify, and troubleshoot MMF and SMF fiber optic cabling links in the ISP (Inside Plant Setting).  This course will teach the student the current industry standards and the required hands on skills: For proper termination of fiber optic connectors, mechanical splices and fusion splices. The student will have demonstrated the use of the Optical Time Domain Reflectometer, OTDR, and other fiber optic test equipment. Structured wiring techniques to deliver a superior high speed network; with easier future maintenance, lower cost of add-and-drop and move updates; and less networking problems over the lifetime of the network installation. Prerequisites: There are no formal prerequisites for the Certified Professional Fiber Optic Installer, however, the student should be physically able to handle normal hand tools and to climb a 10 foot ladder and must have normal depth perception.
