If you are pursuing a CompTIA technical certification path, the CompTIA A+ certification is an excellent first step computer training to take before preparing for the CompTIA N+ certification.
Course Objective: You will identify and describe all the major networking technologies, systems, skills, and tools in use in modern PC-based computer networks, and learn information and skills that will be helpful as you prepare for the CompTIA N+ certification examination, 2005 objectives (exam number N10-003).

Target Student: Entry-level computer support professionals with basic knowledge of computer hardware, software and operating systems, who wish to increase their knowledge and understanding of networking concepts and skills to prepare for a career in network support or administration, or to prepare for the CompTIA Network+ certification, 2005 objectives (exam number N10-003). A typical student in the CompTIA N+ certification course should have 9 months or more of professional computer support experience as a PC technician or help desk technician. Network experience is helpful but not required; A+ certification or the equivalent skills and knowledge is essential for success, but not required.

Prerequisites: A+ or An introductory computer training course in a Windows operating system, or equivalent skills and knowledge, is required. Students can take any one of the following courses: Windows 98: Introduction, Windows Millennium Edition: Introduction, Windows 2000: Introduction, or Windows XP: Introduction.

CompTIA A+ certification, or the equivalent skills and knowledge, is essential for N+ certification success, but not required. Students may wish to take both of the following courses: A+ ™ Certification: Essentials (Exam 220-601 and A+ CompTIA Network and Deskside IT Technician 220-602 (2006 Objectives).

Delivery Method: Instructor led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities.

Hardware Requirements

* 1 computer will be provided by HyperLearning, for each student, 1 computer for the instructor, and 1 computer to function as a classroom server.

In order to adequately study N+ certification, when not in the classroom, and do homework, each student should have access to a computer.  Each computer will need:
* 256 MB RAM or more
* Pentium III 133 MHz processors or greater
* SVGA video card and monitor or higher
* 5 GB free hard disk space or more
* A mouse or other pointing device
* A 12X or faster CD-ROM drive
* Network adapters and media
* The instructor's computer requires a projection system
* Internet access is optional

* To support the activities in N+ Lesson 4, the instructor will demonstrate as many physical examples of different types of network media and connectors as possible.
* For the data backup activity in N+ certification Lesson 13, the instructor will provide a blank floppy disk for each student, or use an alternative backup location (such as a removable jump drive or a folder on the hard disk).
* The instructor should have a copy of the Windows Server 2003 installation CD-ROM available in the classroom, needed during the administrative tools installation activity in n+ Lesson 15.
* To support the activities in N+ certification Lesson 16, the instructor will provide as many physical examples of hardware tools and a hands-on training breadboard.
* For the optional cable assembly activity in Lesson 16, the instructor will  provide students with raw cable, the appropriate connectors, the appropriate crimping tool, a cable tester, and an optional eye loupe.

Platform Requirements

Software Requirements

The setup instructions and the N+ certification classroom activities were designed and tested for systems running Windows Server 2003. It is very possible that the activities will work properly or with little alteration if the classroom systems are running Windows Server 2000 instead, but this has not been tested.
* Windows Server 2003 (Standard or Enterprise Edition)
