It is an international, vendor-neutral certification that recognizes a technician's ability to describe the features and functions of networking components and to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols and services. In many years as a trainer, I have found that MOST courses can be self-studied, by a skilled and dedicated person, with a great deal of persistence.   CompTIA N+ certification is an exception!  I have seen very few people successfully self-study and pass the CompTIA N+ certification.  Even those who start off, feeling like they know a lot about networking, will find N+ to be a challenge, and which will require instructor-led classes to master.  Furthermore, for those people who will be going on to MCSA and MCSE, they will find that, when they hit the 70-291 Microsoft certification exam, those who have mastered CompTIA N+ will find 70-291 to be challenging - but will pass  it.  Those who have not mastered N+ certification will often find the 70-291 exam to be too hard for them.  HyperLearning Technologies strongly recommends N+ certification, BEFORE starting on an advanced MCSA or MCSE course - even for experienced administrators.
