LAN Admin Linux

The LAN Administrator - Linux Program is a Diploma program designed to prepare students for employment in the IT field as a LAN Administrator on the Linux operating system platform.

The program begins with IT Technical Support & Operations courses which ia an entry level IT course and progresses through computer Networking and Computer Security courses. Windows 10 courses are included in the program to obtain proficiency with a client operating system. The knowledge obtained in these courses will be applied in the Unix/Linux courses and labs. Productivity classes in Excel, Visio, Outlook and SharePoint are included to prepare the student for the workplace and complement the learning experience.

The LAN Administrator (Linux) program will provide students with the skills that employers seek for Linux/Unix administrator positions and increasingly require from their existing network administrators. Completing the program with the optional technical certifications will demonstrate a high level of industry-recognized knowledge and expertise in the administration of Enterprise networks, using the Linux Operating System.

  1. Prerequisites:

    Students eligible for admission to HyperLearning Technologies are 18 years of age or over and have a high school diploma or GED. Prerequisites for the program include a foundation in computers and software applications including the Windows desktop, word processing, spreadsheets, database, Internet, and e-mail. Students must exhibit a strong desire to be successful in their studies and to become proficient with IT technologies. For students who are technically deficient, Microsoft MTA course(s) and specialty Microsoft Certified Office Specialist programs are recommended as prerequisites. These courses are available at HyperLearning Technologies as certificate courses.

  2. Objectives:

    The LAN Administrator - Linux Program will provide students with the skills and certifications that employers seek for Linux/Unix administrator positions and increasingly require from their existing network administrators. Completing the program with technical certifications will demonstrate a high level of industry-recognized knowledge and expertise in the administration of Linux networks. The LAN Administrator - Linux Diploma and related certifications will set HyperLearning graduates apart from diploma/degree-only graduates and will increase their opportunities for employment in the IT field.

  3. Admissions:

    Students are eligible for admission to HyperLearning Technologies if over 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. Prerequisites for the LAN Administrator - Linux Program includes a foundation in computers and software applications including the Windows desktop, word processing, spreadsheets, database, Internet, and e-mail. For students who are deficient or feel a refresher is necessary, the CompTIA Strata IT Fundamentals course and specialty Microsoft Certified Office Specialist certifications are recommended as prerequisites. These courses are available at HyperLearning Technologies as certification programs.

  4. Transfer Policy:

    Courses completed at other institutions may be transferred depending upon the course and program. To transfer courses, a transcript from an accredited institution with a grade of 'C' or better and/or current technical certification from a certifying body awarded by an Authorized Training Center must be submitted for evaluation.

    A transfer application fee of $25.00 per course is required. The transfer application fee will be refunded if the transfer is denied.

  5. Graduation Requirements:

    The graduating candidate must have earned or will have earned at time of graduation the minimum, required semester credit hours as identified in the program description, and be in good financial standing with the institution. The student must have a cumulative grade point average of C or above. The student must also demonstrate competency in the field. Two alternatives are available to the student to demonstrate competency. The student can either take and pass 2/3’s of the optional industry exams in the diploma program or challenge and pass a competency exam prepared by the school for the technology track.

  6. Grading System

    Grades will be awarded based upon classroom performance based grading. A performance grade will be awarded based upon attendance, class participation, lab exercises and quizzes/tests. A student who attends class, participates in class activities, completes the labs and passes the industry sponsored certification exam will be awarded a letter grade of A.
